Hi, I’m Heather – I love colour, and nature. So what better way to bring them both together than through painting! I'm almost always up for a creative challenge so I push myself to try new subjects and techniques.
I work mostly in acrylics because they match my painting style – fast, layered, and intuitive. I love building up colours in thin layers to create depth and vibrancy. In my landscapes, cars, and still life work, I often bump up the colours from my reference photos to give them extra energy. When it comes to animals, I go all in with the colours, using rich layers to bring out texture and personality in fur and feathers.
My inspiration for landscapes often comes from time spent outdoors, especially in places like Kananaskis and Fish Creek Park. Nature constantly reminds me to slow down, look closely, and find beauty in small details.
My inspiration for animals is in their expressions. I want to bring out their unique character in each piece and play with different colour combinations. My goal is to make people smile when they see my animal portraits.
Art has always been part of my life – I was introduced to it by my mom and nurtured it through school, workshops, and creative hobbies like crafting and scrapbooking. I picked up painting more seriously in 2016 as a way to unwind and express myself, and it’s grown into a true passion. I still consider myself an emerging artist, always learning and exploring as I find my voice.
Since my first online group show in 2020, I’ve been lucky to participate in local exhibitions each year. More than anything, painting brings me joy, and I hope that joy comes through in every piece I create.
